Teleoperation

The comfortable user interface of our control software and the smart communication systems we employ allow teleoperating mobile robot systems or other vehicles. Furthermore, our control software makes it possible to observe the environment of the mobile system from a safe distance. Among the various sensors we offer for this purpose are CCD-zoom cameras, thermal imaging cameras, laser scanner, radioactivity sensors and gas detectors.

teleoperation-1

Fig. 1: Our control software gives the operator a very good overview of the situation. For example, several camera images, a map with the current position and camera zoom controls are at the operator’s disposal.

We will adapt our control software user interface to the special requirements of the customer. The customer can thus control additional sensors and actuators like extinguisher systems, manipulators, and telescopic arms.

teleoperation-2

Fig. 2: The robot can be directed via the control software. Special control functions for telescope arms or manipulators are also included. The robot is currently demonstrating automatic backtrack capabilities.

Our telerobotics operation can be enhanced by semi-autonomous features. After a communication loss or when an obstacle is detected, the robot can stop or even backtrack automatically. Backtracking increases usability dramatically because the operator can drive into possibly shielded buildings without having to fear to lose control of the robot. Automatic obstacle detection can also lower the risks of human failure.

teleoperation-3

Fig. 3: Cameras around a vehicle can give an optimal overview. A thermal imaging camera allows viewing the situation even at night.

When utilizing our user interface software, the operator can take control of an autonomously driving vehicle at any time and later return control to the robot software. Our robots use WLAN communication during teleoperation. Upon request other communication methods can be employed as well.
